How to Effectively Use Your Brass Knuckles

Self Defense

One of the most efficient hand combat weapons ever invented by man is Brass Knuckles. These weapons comprise of four-fingered rings soldered together in one solid piece of metal. They are primarily used for self-defense since they enhance your punching power in a more ruthless way. Though remember they can even hurt you if you are unable to punch rightly. Also, these knuckles are illegal in some areas so make sure to confirm your state’s regulations regarding the use and ownership of brass knuckles.

Brass knuckles are used both as a defensive and offensive weapon. This hardcore fighting tool is designed to strengthen the punching power of the wearer’s fist. In typical combats, participants form a fist by drawing the fingers across the palm and press the thumb against the forefinger. The flat component between the knuckles and the first finger joints make this a firmly solid weapon for hitting an opponent.

They have also appeared in many movies and TV shows. A few recent appearances include a pair of brass knuckles employed on D-Day in Band of Brothers. During World War I, this weapon was also used in the hand-to-hand fight in trench prowling functions and was also merged into the handle of some trench blades. Below we have listed the tips on how to punch powerfully before using this personal protection weapon.

Learn the Mechanics

It’s important to be aware of the technicalities of an effective punch. Make sure to use your complete body including legs, arms, fist, shoulders, etc. For a usual punch, you often need a direct impact using your extended arm. While when punching with brass knuckles, your strike should be somewhat curved along the arms. Though make sure to keep your wrist straight. This will minimize the direct impact on your bones and its more likely that you won’t suffer from any risk injury.

Familiarize with Your Body

Make sure you are aware of your body strength and practice punches prior to using brass knuckles. Not only this will keep you active but eventually, you will get used to the technique of throwing punches. Keep on practicing using a punching bag to increase the intensity and speed.

Put on Your Brass Knuckles

In addition to above-mentioned factors, wearing the weapon in the right way is imperative. All you have to do is put on the brass knuckles by inserting the fingers into the four small holes and draw them across the palm. Afterward, push the thumb towards the forefinger.

Defend Yourself

Keep your legs along shoulder width and slightly bend your knees. Take a step frontward with the foot on the side of the arm that won’t knock. Bend your arms to punch hard and form a tight fist. Make sure not to get your thumb close to your fingers.

Aim the Target

Concentrate on your target and throw a powerful punch. Keep your wrist prolonged in one direction, without any curve. Though throw your punches on a slanted direction. Knockout your target with the two knuckles adjoining to your thumb, since these are the toughest to be broken.

  1. Another important thing to keep in mind is how the brass knuckles are made and whether they are too big or small for your hand. I bought brass knuckles made with real brass but it seems that they are intended for collecting rather than using or for a smaller hand. Reason I say this is I have large hands and the one I bought is for medium to large sized hands. When I use them as intended they hurt my hand and I have to have the finger holes between my first knuckles and fingernail. Holding it this way even though they are a bit small for my hand I managed to use them without hurting the hand I was wearing them on. It is important to have measurements on your hand to more accurately determine what sized brass knuckles you need for your hand. One size does not fit all.
